Vacaville Unified School District
Facilities Assessment and Master Facilities Plan
-
The Vacaville Unified School District (VUSD) was in the middle of a series of bond projects when they identified the need for a master facilities plan to assist with prioritization of current projects and to identify future work. Marcus worked with CPM to review site conditions and meet with stakeholders at each campus to clarify the facilities conditions as well as the educational and operational needs of each campus.
Once the assessments at each campus were completed, the team worked with an executive committee to consider District-wide needs and priorities. This process took several years as changes in local development (i.e. new housing) were planned and then cancelled regularly, the State issued new requirements (for T-K) and the programs at the District continued to shift.
At the end a final plan was developed that took into account the shifting needs of the District and the demographic challenges. Many of the projects that were planned in the first phases of the effort were completed with great success as shown in the example of Markham Elementary School (dual-immersion Spanish-English elementary school).
